A Fuel Cost Reference—Our First White Paper
July 26, 2008
This summer, I have been working on something of a publication to help people with less economic knowledge understand what factors affect the price of fuel just for fun. It’s written so that the layman lay person can understand it. I have it available for download as a PDF. If you right click on the link, you should be able to download it. If this is liked enough, we might open up a new page for research papers like we have our book reviews page. I hope you enjoy it.

*lay person.
You and your archaic exclusionary language…
I lay. Does that make me a lay person?
I’m going into hiding from Karie.
Lay people typically get laid.
That’s right, you’re going into hiding!
Actually, I’m not too fussed about the universal use of “man” to mean all of mankind. Or I suppose I should say human kind. There are so many other things that are more worth getting offended over.
And Steve, you personally don’t lay, you lie. If you’re going to survive Lit Crit this fall you should at least be armed with the knowledge that lay requires a direct object.
I actually intended to get on here to say great job to Chris. What an excellent way to spend a summer: voluntary research.
It was a pun, Karie. Jeesh.
Sorry. English major’s knee jerk reaction.
No, not actually a pun. A deliberate misuse of the word to convey a point. Does that have a literary name, Ms. English?
I’m going to have to write a post now about the Political Correctness movement. You really don’t think words like that matter?
I don’t think it has a specific name, unless you mean a malapropism.
Is this a trick?
But it wasn’t intentional.
No trick. Why would I ever do that to you?
David, I think words like that do matter, and I try to be conscious of my own use of them. But you have to pick your battles, and I’d rather fight about something else.
(What was it Steve said in one of your debates… “manpower”? I certainly don’t want to be THAT guy.)
Hahahahahaha… “THAT guy.” I laughed out loud at that.
Steven said “manpower”? What a male chauvinist!
Males should rule the planet.
You picked the right planet to live on, then…
Not that being a male chauvinist is a bad thing…just an observation.
I’m beginning to think we need more diversity on this blog.
